Justin Wilcox and Harsin worked together at Boise State as assistants with Wilcox running the defense and Harsin the offense from 2006-09 when the Broncos went 49-4.

Hoping for drastic improvement, the Bears are turning their offense over to Harsin, who will also serve as Cal’s quarterbacks coach.

In addition to head coaching stints at Auburn (2021-22), Boise State (2014-20) and Arkansas State (2013), Harsin has also been offensive coordinator at Boise State (2006-10) and Texas (2010-11). He played quarterback at Boise State from 1995-99.

Cal was not in the coaching carousel as far as head coach goes. The Golden Bears are retaining Justin Wilcox for a ninth season, but they needed a new offensive coordinator after moving on from Mike Bloesch.

Cal is set to hire Bryan Harsin, the former coach at Auburn, Boise State and Arkansas State, as offensive coordinator, and a deal could be finalized soon, a source told ESPN.

Harsin, who was fired amid controversy at Auburn two years ago, reportedly close to joining Wilcox’s staff with the Cal Bears.
