Medrick Burnett Jr, a 20-year-old linebacker at Alabama A&M University, died following a head injury suffered at the Magic City Classic.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Alabama A&M linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr. has died from injuries received in the Magic City Classic last month. Burnett, 20, was pronounced dead Wednesday at 5:43 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

Medrick Burnett Jr., a student at Alabama A&M, died on Wednesday night after suffering a head injury playing in a football game in October. Jefferson County Deputy Coroner AJ Clifton confirmed the tragic news to The Athletic on Friday.
