NEWCOMB, N.Y. (WCAX) - The search for a missing hiker in New York’s Adirondacks has been put on hold due to safety concerns. Leo DuFour, 22, of Quebec, set off on the Allen Mountain Trailhead in Newcomb on Nov. 29 and hasn’t been seen since. Earlier this week, authorities said the search for DuFour had become a recovery mission.

Temperatures on the mountain are expected to dip below zero, with wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour creating wind chills of -20 at the summit, according to the NY DEC.

Leo DuFour’s vehicle was found at the Mount Adams trailhead covered in snow; the search for the hiker is now a recovery operation.
