ATLANTA (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is trying to get the Georgia election interference case against him dismissed, asserting that the state’s courts will not have jurisdiction over him once he returns to the White House next month.

Judge Juan Merchan postponed sentencing in that case while he considers the request. Trump and 18 others were charged in the Georgia case with playing separate roles in an alleged criminal conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Their filing contends that a “sitting president is completely immune from indictment or any criminal process, state or federal.”
