The NBA and multiple college basketball conferences postponed games in response to winter weather that broke snowfall records in some southern states and coated others with a mix of snow and ice.

A winter storm has impacted 1,500 miles of the Deep South, from the Texas Gulf Coast to the eastern coast of the Carolinas.

The Sun Belt Conference has announced that several men’s and women’s basketball games scheduled for Thursday have been postponed due to travel difficulties associated with winter storm Enzo.

All-time record snowfall blanketed the Mobile area on Tuesday. Footage from Noah Scheeler shows the campus of the University of South Alabama draped in a thick winter coat, as snow continued to fall in the region.

A significant winter storm was just getting started in south Alabama early Tuesday morning, with several inches of snow possible across parts of the region before the day is over. The National Weather Service said this has the potential to be a “historic” winter storm for south Alabama.
