Great players need great coaches and vice versa. The correct combination of both is crucial for success in team sports. Especially in the cutthroat world of big-time college basketball, one of the most competitive areas of the sports world.

The Badgers allowed a 20-4 run in the second half, but they showed the strides they've made with a resilient effort down the stretch.

The victory marked a milestone for Badgers coach Greg Gard: It was win No. 200 of his coaching career, inching him higher on the program’s all-time coaching wins list. He’s one of four to reach that 200-win mark with the program.

The Badgers men's basketball coach is one victory away from becoming the fourth coach in program history to win 200 games.

John Blackwell finished with 28 points and Max Klesmit added 18 for the Badgers, who defeated the Trojans, 86-69, Saturday at Galen Center.

Much like his first career win, the Badgers tested their coach's nerves down the stretch. But one trend continued Tuesday: Several players contributed to the victory.
