Broadway adaptations on the big screen are notoriously hit or miss. With the box-office success of "Wicked," analysts say it could encourage other studios to take part.

Universal's Thanksgiving pic opened to an estimated $114 million over the Nov. 22-24 weekend, more than three times the previous domestic record-holder, 'Into the Woods.'

Wicked continues to dominate at the box office. On Monday night, the new musical blockbuster grossed a record-breaking $15.8 million, making Wicked the highest-grossing movie on a Monday in November ever.
