The Muskoka region was hit with a heavy snowstorm on Saturday afternoon, causing major traffic disruptions on Highway 11. The snow squalls stranded motorists’ vehicles, left thousands without power and lead Gravenhurst to declare a state of emergency.

From road closures, power outages, weather declarations and nonstop shoveling, Muskoka residents have been faced with nearly a metre of persistent snowfall.

TORONTO - Snow-clearing crews are slowly making progress after an intense weekend storm battered parts of Ontario, allowing Highway 11 north of Toronto to reopen on Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police say they expect to reopen Highway 11 this afternoon after significant snowfall in the area over the weekend. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says crews are still working to clear the snow and they hope to reopen the northbound lanes of the highway around noon and the southbound lanes later in the afternoon.
