Another Hindu priest and Iskon member, Shyam Das Prabhu, was detained in Chattogram, Bangladesh without an official warrant. This follows the earlier arrest of spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges.

Radharamn Das, Vice-President and Spokesperson for ISKCON Kolkata, posted on X on Friday, stating, "Another Brahmachari Sri Shyam Das Prabhu was arrested by Chattogram Police today."

In 2021, mob attacks during and after the Hindu festival of Durga Puja prompted human rights group Amnesty International to say that the Bangladesh state has, over the years, "failed in its duty to protect minorities".

The development comes amid widespread protests by Hindus across Bangladesh following the arrest of former Iskcon leader Chinmoy Krishna Das earlier this week on sedition charges.
