The head of the Louvre in Paris has warned the government about leaks, overcrowding and sub-standard catering in a confidential note that has raised alarm about the state of the world's most-visited museum.

With the men’s collections in full swing and Couture right around the corner, the Louvre Museum today will unveil “Louvre Couture,” the first major exhibition to place masterworks of modern fashion—and their inspiration—within the broader context of French history and decorative arts.

The exhibition unfolds across four time periods — the Byzantine period and Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the 17th and 18th centuries, and the 19th century and France’s Second Empire — with fashion creations placed on mirrored podiums and in glass display cases surrounded by the Louvre’s decorative arts collection.

A first-of-its-kind fashion exhibition at the Paris museum draws links between historical objects and the contemporary creations of 45 designers and houses. It opens Jan. 24.
