The day was originally observed as Law Day until the government, in 2015, rechristened it as Constitution Day to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar.

The Indian Constitution guarantees six fundamental rights enshrined in Articles 12 to 35 and eleven fundamental duties, mentioned in Article 51(A).
