The head of global mining group Rio Tinto , pledged to act if wrongdoing was discovered following the filing of sexual harassment lawsuits against the company.

A group of Australian women has lodged lawsuits against Rio Tinto and BHP, alleging widespread discrimination and sexual harassment while working for the mining giants.

Global mining giants BHP Group and Rio Tinto are facing class actions alleging widespread and systemic sexual harassment at Australian mine sites, law firm JGA Saddler said on Wednesday (December 11) via a video news release.

BHP and Rio Tinto have used confidentiality agreements to prevent female employees from speaking about sexual harassment at work, according to a lawyer leading Australian class action lawsuits against the miners.

Rio Tinto and BHP are confronting class action lawsuits alleging that they created environments where female staff suffered systemic sexual harassment and gender discrimination at their Australian mining sites.
