A 17-year-old male died over the weekend after a shooting at a local Wawa.

Police say it began as a verbal altercation involving multiple people inside the store which later turned physical.

A man was fatally shot Saturday at a Wawa in Stroudsburg, according to authorities. The Monroe County Coroner’s Office said in a news release that the man died from his injuries about 9 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono. An autopsy is scheduled for later in the week. The coroner’s office said the shooting was an isolated incident.

Stroud Area Regional police say they received multiple 911 calls for a male shot at the Wawa on West Main Street in Stroudsburg around 8:20 p.m. Officials say upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old man that was shot in the neck area. They performed life-saving measures until EMS services arrived and took over care of the victim.

A deputy coroner for Monroe county confirmed one man was shot at Wawa and he died in a hospital emergency room. The name of the victim has not been released. Police have not said if anyone is in custody. This is a developing story and will be updated with information as it becomes available.
